COLOMBO (News 1st): For the third successive year John Keells (JK) Foundation conducted a public transport campaign to coincide with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. The 25th of every month has been designated as Orange Day by the UN Women campaign 'Say No, UNiTE'. The campaign was launched in 2009 to eliminate violence against women. The 2018 theme is 'Orange the World: #HearMeToo' - and like previous editions, the date marks the launch of 16 days of activism that will conclude on International Human Rights Day - December 10, 2018. This year's campaign by the John Keells Foundation is targeting bus commuters within the Colombo City limits through a sticker and leaflet campaign with a particular focus on the importance of reporting incidents of sexual harassment. Teams of volunteers from John Keells Foundation will be carrying out the campaign in prominent locations in Colombo including bus stands in Pettah, Borella, Gunasinghepura and Bastian Mawatha throughout the day to create awareness.
