Investigations reveal inmate escaped from Colombo Remand Prison

Colombo (News1st): Preliminary investigations have revealed that Sunil Shantha, the suspect connected to drug trafficking, had escaped while at the Colombo Remand Prison. A senior officer at the Ministry of Prisons said that the suspect had made his escape while in transit from the Kegalle prison to the Colombo remand prison. Statements have been recorded from 10 prison officers in connection to the incident. The Ministry of Prisons spokesperson said that information has come to light that the suspect had a plan to escape to another country by boat. Accordingly, all offices of the Department of Fisheries have been informed in this regard. Several investigations are underway to locate the suspect against whom 10 cases are ongoing thus far for drug trafficking and other crimes.
