WP Councillors caught watching porn in chambers

Colombo (News1st): The Western Province Chief Minister has ordered for a probe after some councilors watched pornographic material on a computer in the council during the Budget presentation yesterday (November 19). The first-ever meeting of the Western Provincial Council at its new state-of-the-art 6.5 Billion Rupee facility in Battaramulla took place yesterday. As part of its modernization plan, councilors were given the latest PCs with internet browsing facilities inside the chamber. 150 chairs each valued at over 600,000 rupees were to be purchased for this building. When Chief Minister Isura Devapriya was making the budget presentation three members from the UPFA namely Gunasiri Jayanath, Sumith Zoysa and Keerthi Kariyawasam were caught on tape watching pornographic material on their PCs. The Chief Minister speaking to reporters expressed his disappointment over the incident especially as it was during the 2019 provincial budget presentation. A similar incident took place in India in 2012, three BJP ministers in Karnataka, who were caught on camera watching porn on a mobile phone during assembly proceedings were forced to resign following orders from an embarrassed party leadership.
