Tense situation at the Poddala Pradeshiya Sabha

COLOMBO (News 1st) - A tense situation was reported at the Bope- Poddala Pradeshiya Sabha in Galle today (November 19). Members of the United National Party arrived at the premises dressed in black. The opposition leader of the Pradeshiya Sabha, Premalal Abeysinghe sat on the Chairman's seat. The group claimed that they had secured a majority in the Pradeshiya Sabha as they had the support of three SLPP members. The chairman of the Pradeshiya Sabha Dilruk S Abeykoon and other members who arrived at the Pradeshiya Sabha carried the Opposition leader out of the premises. A clash ensued while Chairman Abeykoon decided to postpone the session by 1 hour. SLFP members then celebrated the birthday of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa with a cake. The members were also seen feeding cake to UNP members, who they fought. However, despite the cake and celebrations, tension continued after the session was reconvened.
