Colombo (News1st) – General Secretary of the UNP, MP Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has challenged members of the SLPP to bring a no-confidence motion against Speaker Karu Jayasuriya.
Speaking to reporters in Parliament today, Kariyawasam noted that there are a number of SLPP members who charge that the Speaker acted in an unlawful manner. He stated that if they believe this to be true, these MPs have the chance to bring forward no-confidence motion against the Speaker instead of expressing such views to the media.
Kariyawasam added that the Speaker had acted in accordance with the constitution and the standing orders of Parliament. The UNP General Secretary confidently stated that their majority, in Parliament, is increasing each day.
Parliament is set to convene at 1pm today.
