Religious leaders urge politicos to take quick action

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Religious leaders of the country have urged political leaders to let the people make decisions against the backdrop of the prevailing political crisis of the country. All religions were represented at a news conference organized in Colombo today (November 18). Addressing the conference Venerable Kotugoda Dhammawasa Thero said that they are very disappointed in the President, Prime Minister, Opposition leader and the speaker of the country. The Thero continued to say that they urge the President and the other leaders to come together to discuss and hand this over to the general public of the country. He added the decision making power should be vested with the people and that this could be defined as democracy. Archbishop of Colombo, his Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith said that as the religious leaders of the country they hope to meet with the President, Mahinda Rajapaksa, Ranil Wickremesinghe, and the speaker in one place to have a discussion. Moulavi H.F.M Harook called on the President to act alongside the party leaders and the opposition and all the MPs to put the current situation to an end and work towards a legal and constitutional outcome which ensures the well being of the country.
