11.28 am – A meeting of both the United National Party and the United Peoples Freedom Alliance is currently underway at the parliamentary premises.

10.59 am – Speaking to the media MP Lakshman Kiriella said that the no-confidence motion submitted by the JVP to  Speaker Karu Jayasuriya was passed with a majority in parliament today (November 14).

10.29 am – Speaker Karu Jayasuriya has decided to adjourn parliamentary sessions till 10.00 am tomorrow (November 15) following a decision that the government does not have a majority in parliament.

10.22 AM – Speaking to News 1st Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara stated that both Ranil Wickremesinghe and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa do not have a majority in parliament and that therefore they will function as a minority government.

10.00 am – Several parliamentarians arrive at the parliamentary complex wearing a black shawl in protest of the current political unrest in the country.

9.33 AM – Former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe arrived at the parliamentary complex a short while ago.

 

COLOMBO (News 1st) – Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, Namal Rajapaksa, and Minister Faizer Mustapha arrived at the parliamentary complex a short while ago.

Our correspondent reported that there is a heavy security presence surrounding the parliamentary premise.
