COLOMBO (News 1st) – Leading political parties are holding discussions on whether to contest at the upcoming election through common alliances.
UPFA MP W.D.J. Seneviratne said that the SLFP and the Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) will be creating an alliance to contest the upcoming elections. Seneviratne also said that there is a proposal to appoint the President as the leader of the alliance and the Prime Minister as its Chairman adding that since discussions concluded last evening (November 12), nothing has been officially informed.
Meanwhile, UPFA MP Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena said that discussions are underway to consider naming the alliance, “the Sri Lanka Nidahas Podu Jana Permauna,” adding that they are yet to agree on a symbol for the alliance.
