UNP responds to harassment at silent candlelight vigil

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The young professional's organization of the UNP staged a silent candlelight vigil near the Beire lake last night (November 11). News 1st reporters who arrived at this vigil to cover the incident were verbally abused by a couple of people. The vigil was organized in order to demand for democracy. In response to this incident, Former MP Harshana Rajakaruna commented in the following manner. Rajakaruna said that he was aware of the reporters from Sirasa being harassed at the event. While apologizing for the inconvenience caused former MP Rajakaruna added that Sirasa had always extended their support in the fight for democracy and good governance. Meanwhile, Harsha De Silva also commented on the following incident. He said that the vigil was not organized by one group adding that in this fight as citizens of the country everyone should get together.
