Landslide risk in Hanguranketha

Colombo (News1st) - Reports have revealed that the Athgala hill in Dodangolla, Hanguranketha is facing a landslide. News1st brought you dramatic footage of the Athgala hill was eroding yesterday. Our reporters returned to the location today (Nov 12) to look into the matter. When observing from atop, our reporters saw that the Athgala hill in Dodangolla had sunk by between 20 and 30 feet. While the hilltop has been eroding since last Saturday, 4 families have already been relocated by the authorities. Meanwhile, a group of Disaster Management officials stationed at the Hanguranketha Divisional Secretariat arrived in the area to observe the situation. The erosion of the Athgala hill has led to the Hapuwela - Rikillagaskadawala road being made inaccessible from the Dodangolla area. As a result, residents of Hapuwala, Dhampala and Dodangolla will now have to use an alternate route to reach RIkillagaskadawala which adds 12km to their journey. Our correspondent stated that authorities are taking the necessary steps to clear the road.
