Reuters - Security forces gunned down two militants during an encounter in Pulwama region of Indian Kashmir, said state police on Saturday (November 10). A search operation was launched following input about the presence of militants in a village in Pulwama. The militants were killed during the ensuing gun battle. The two militants belonged to Pakistan-based terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen, said Inspector General of Police, Swayam Prakash Pani. Unrest has simmered in Kashmir, home to a separatist movement, for decades. An insurgency that erupted in 1989 against India has eased in recent years, but most Kashmiris yearn for independence and some support the few hundred militants still fighting.
