Rs. 2 Mn worth cigarettes taken into custody at the BIA

Colombo (News 1st) - 02 suspects were arrested in an attempt to smuggle a stock of cigarettes by the customs officers at the BIA. Deputy Director of Customs, Vipul Minuwanpitiya stated that 41,000 cigarettes amounting to more than Rs. 2 million were found in their possession. The 02 suspects aged 35 and 38 are residents of Colombo and Marawila. The duo had attempted to smuggle the cigarettes in their hand luggage upon returning from Dubai. While the stock of cigarettes was taken into custody, the 02 suspects were released after the payment of a fine.
