Colombo (News1st): Speaking to the media, Leader of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Anura Kumara Dissanayake stated that their party will function independently in Parliament.

He stated that the president has shown that they are willing to do any cheap act to fulfil their objectives of remaining in power. He noted that Maithripala and Ranil had lost the mandate of the 6.2mn people that voted for them.

According to the JVP leader, there needs to be a new political camp that stands for the people and currently, the parliamentarians are on auction. We ask that the people, for the sake of democracy and for the sake of this nation, form the broadest possible front to take on this matter, said Anura Kumara adding that they will not take part in this bid to capture power.

He went onto note that this is now a dogfight and the JVP will not be party to this dogfight and will not support any of the parties.
