Tenure of another Provincial Council comes to an end

Colombo (News1st): The tenure of the Northern Provincial Council came to an end at midnight yesterday (October 24), bringing the tenure of 06 Provincial bodies to an end. It's been a year since the tenure of the Sabaragamuwa, Eastern and North Central provinces expired while the tenure of the Western, Southern and Uva provinces will expire early next year. The report of the delimitation committee was defeated in the Parliament recently. The tenure of the Delimitation Review Committee will come to an end on the 28th of this month. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has urged Speaker Karu Jayasuriya to extend the tenure of the committee. Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Local Government and Provincial Councils Shriyani Wijewickrama said that she met with the president and discussed expediting the electoral process either with the new or old systems.
