SLFP Mawanella organiser arrested with three firearms and ammunition

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Joint Organizer of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party for Mawanella M.I.S.Cader was arrested by the Police Special Task Force this morning (October 18). The Police Media Spokesperson said the arrest was made based on a tip-off received by the Inspector General of Police. A senior official of the Organized Crimes Investigation Division said that the Joint Organizer was taken into custody and is currently being interrogated. The STF arrested Imtiyas Cader at his residence in Kegalle this morning for the illegal possession of three firearms and ammunition. According to the STF, the weapons in his possession included an MP5 sub-machine gun, a T56 assault rifle, and a repeater gun. In addition, 79 - 9mm bullets, 33 -T56 bullets, 17 repeater bullets, and 11 rounds of live ammunition were seized by the STF. The IGP has instructed to conduct further investigations to ascertain as to why the firearms were kept in the suspect's possession. According to the police, a court case is currently underway over charges of illegal weapons possession. The suspect currently in the custody of the organized crime investigation division will be produced before the Kegalle magistrate court tomorrow (October 18).
