Families relocated following landslide warning in Haldummulla

Colombo (News1st): 150 people from 45 families have been evacuated to safer locations following landslide warnings in Beragala, Haldummulla. Additionally, 695 houses in the Puttalam District have been damaged following strong winds and rain experienced in the area the past few days. Director of Disaster Relief Services, Chaminda Pathiraja said that Rs. 10,000 have already been paid as advance compensation fee to the house owners whose houses were damaged. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy says that power cuts resulting from inclement weather continues to be reported from several parts of the island. Its spokesperson Sulakshman Jayawardena said teams have been deployed to restore the supply of electricity to normalcy.
