Alleged gang member shot by Police in Athurugiriya

COLOMBO (News 1st) - An individual suspected for his involvement in organized crimes was injured in Athurugiriya during a shootout with the officers attached to the Police organized crimes division. The injured suspect was identified as Ranasinghe Arachchige Hasitha alias Banda was transferred to the National Hospital after initially being admitted to the Oruwala Hospital. Officers of the Police organized crime unit seized a weapon that was in possession of the suspect. SP Ruwan Gunasekara said the officers had gone to the location of the incident based on a tip-off received. He continued to say that the individual injured during the shootout is an associate of underworld leaders Madush and Angoda lokka, both currently overseas and evading the law. He is also suspected to be the wheelman involves in the recent Matara jewelry heist which claimed the life of a Police officer.
