High salinity level of water kills fish in the Bundala lagoon

COLOMBO (News 1st) - According to the National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Agency (NARA), the rise in salinity levels of the Bundala lagoon,  part of the Bundala National Park in Hambanthota, has lead to the death of fish in the lagoon. Head of the Environmental Studies Division at NARA, Shyamalee Weerasekara, said that samples of water and several dead fish from the Bundala lagoon were sent to the Rekawa Research Centre for further analysis and that its report is expected to be released within the course of three days. The Bundala National Park is considered a valuable wetland, according to the Ramsar list of wetlands of international importance.
