Reuters - Heavy downpours and flooding hit Hong Kong on Sunday (September 16) as a super typhoon closed hurtled past the city. High waves crashed onto a walking promenade and flooded streets. Tropical cyclone Mangkhut moved towards the Chinese coast, gaining in strength over the South China Sea after raging through the Philippines, where it killed at least 25 people. Mangkhut is considered the strongest to hit the region this year, packing gale-force winds of more than 200 kph (125 mph), equivalent to a maximum Category 5 "intense hurricane" in the Atlantic.
