Colombo (News1st) - A Sri Lankan Parliamentary delegation is currently in India based on an invitation extend by the Indian Government. At the same time, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is also in India, based on an invitation extended by BJP leader Dr. Subramaniam Swami. Later this year, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is due to travel to India after returning from Vietnam. The Parliamentary delegation currently in India consists of;

The group called on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi this morning (September 10), before meeting the Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj. They are due to meet with the Indian President Ramnath Kovind on Tuesday (September 11). Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, accompanied by MP Namal Rajapaksa, is currently in India to address a BJP convention.

It is clear that India is trying to grab power in Sri Lanka in a similar manner to what happened in Nepal. In 1987, India took measures to send in the peacekeeping force under the premiership of Rajiv Gandhi. This created political turmoil in the country. It was the strong decision of President Ranasinghe Premadasa that drove the IPKF away in 1980.
