Wildlife officers around the country have decided to refrain from all work activities with effect from today. The strike was launched demanding the arrest of those responsible for carrying out an assault on a group of wildlife officers earlier this week.
Three wildlife officers continue to receive in-house treatment at the Habarana hospital for injuries suffered during the assault.
Chairman of the All Island Wildlife Officers Association, Indika Wasantha Peiris stated that this decision was taken following failed discussions with the police last afternoon (August 28). However, the Chairman also added that there won’t be any barrier for tourists to enter into the National Park due to the strike action.
According to the Habarana Police, two suspects were arrested in connection to the assault. The arrested suspects have been remanded till the 11th of September.
