COLOMBO (News 1st) – The price of tea leaves has decreased.
Tea planters say that the raw tea leaf which had been priced above Rs. 100 a few months back have now declined to Rs. 80 in some areas.
The tea planters added that they face numerous economic difficulties due to the drop in prices.
Upon an inquiry made by News 1st, from the Sri Lanka Tea Board, its Commissioner-General, Jayantha Edirisinghe stated that the price drop occurred due to sanctions imposed on Iran by the US.
The Commissioner further added that quick measures are been followed to find solutions for this matter.
