Monthly payments being made to run smear campaign against Government opponents

Colombo (News 1st) - Earlier this week MP Ranjith de Zoysa revealed in Parliament of a sinister effort by some members of the Government to slander and silence their political opponents and even those from their own party in order to further their agendas. The MP revealed that 3 members of the Government had paid a sum of 25,000 pounds to a wanted individual by the name of Sandaruwan Senadeera for this operation. UPFA MP Kanaka Herath made a further revelation on Friday (Aug 24th), he noted that the payment of 25,000 pounds had been made to Lanka E News and that monthly payments are also being made into the accounts of the website by members of the Government who are attempting to silence their opponents including the Government backbenchers. The Parliamentarian that regular payments are being made to an account at the Rajagiriya branch of the Commercial bank (Account NO: 1620040162) to run the smear campaign against any and all opponents of the Government. Executive Council Member of SLFP Young Professional Association, Attorney at Law Rajika Kodituwakku made another revelation in this regard as he stated that the 3 members of the Government who provided 25,000 pounds to Sandaruwan Senadeera were senior members of the UNP. Kodituwakku sated that the UNP members had paid this money in London, to run a smear campaign against the President and the SLFP. He noted that certain web-based media is attempting to pump misinformation into the public domain. He added that this payment has prompted certain website operating out of London to sling mud at the President while heaping praise on certain members of the UNP.
