Wild Elephant attacks rescue party in Ipalogama

Colombo (News 1st) - An individual was seriously injured in a wild elephant attack in Ipalogama, Anuradhapura. The incident took place around 4.30 PM on Friday (Aug 17). The wild elephant had chased after two women who were returning home on a motorbike. Unable to get away on the motorbike, the women resorted to abandon the bike and head into the jungle. Thereafter the villagers made attempts to rescue the two women.  The wild elephant then turned its attention on the rescue party. Two people were attacked by the elephant while one man was dragged away into the jungle. The unfortunate victim was located soon afterward, however, he was badly injured by the elephant attack. He was admitted to the Maradan-Kadawala Hospital and was later transferred to the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital. The victim is a 35-year-old father of three from the same area.
