Over 35,000 dengue patients reported in 2018

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Ministry of Health states that cases have been filed against 369 persons responsible for maintaining dengue breeding grounds. Dr Prashila Samaraweera of the dengue eradication unit said the individuals were identified during a campaign that took place in the Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Jaffna and Mannar districts on the 16th and 17th of August. She noted that these districts had been identified as the most vulnerable districts to the deadly disease. According to Dr Samaraweera, 40,000 houses and businesses were inspected during the operation and red notices were issued to 1,500 individuals responsible for maintaining mosquito breeding grounds. According to the Ministry of health over 35,000 people have been diagnosed with dengue during the year while 40 fatalities were also reported.
