Development drive hurting residents of Hambantota

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The so-called development projects that are carried out surrounding the Hambanthota port have caused hardships to the traders who are operating in the Hambanthota town. The Hambantota District can be considered as the center in which massive development projects have taken place in the country. The Hambantota airport, Hambanthota port and the roads which were built simultaneously bear witness to the development of the area. Hambantota is the administrative city of the Hambantota district. According to the general public and the business community of Hambanthota, the shifting of administrative offices from the city has caused several hardships to the general public living there. As part of the new developments that took place a new section of the road was added to the Colombo - Katharagama route which bypasses the Hambantota town. Therefore the buses which used to travel through the City of Hambanthota will not be traveling through it any longer. The business community in the area complains that most shops in the city are facing a risk due to this reason.
