Reservoirs in catchment areas reach spill level

Colombo (News 1st) - Heavy rains in catchment areas has resulted in an increase in the water levels of a number of major reservoirs. According to Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy spokesperson Sulakshana Jayawardena, a number of reservoirs have reached spill level and as a result, the spill gates of a number of reservoirs have been opened. He adds that due to the rise in water levels, hydroelectricity production has increased by 20%.
