Ministerial event disrupts A/L exam in Gampaha

Colombo (News 1st) - Construction activities of the Siyatha Environmental Park in Gampaha began today. The event was graced by Minister of Megapolis and Western Development of Patali Champika Ranawaka. The project is being carried out by the Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development, the Urban Development Authority and the Land Reclamation & Development Corporation. The park is being constructed opposite the Bandaranaike Vidyalaya along the Gampaha - Yakkala main road. The project is estimated to be of worth Rs. 150 mn. Min. Patali Champika Ranawaka at the event spoke about how Rathnawali Girls School in Gampaha performed well during the GCE O\L examination. He stated that the Gampaha Rathnawali is the number one school in Sri Lanka and that as a nation we should be proud of those students. Further, he stated that the knowledge hub of this country is Gampaha and according to the Minister Engineers and doctors are produced mostly in Gampaha. Although the minister was speaking highly about the education in this manner, students of the Rathnavali Girls School who were sitting for the GCE Advanced Level examination today were severely inconvenienced by the event which was graced by the Minister. The examination centre was located only 50 m away from where the event was held. Students and teachers complained that the loudspeakers and firecrackers used during the event disrupted the examination procedure. However, when News 1st inquired from the Gampaha Police about the situation they stated the event was held using small speakers. Further, a group of people were at the location claiming the lands were acquired illegally to carry out the project.
