Colombo (News1st) – Following discussions with President Maithripala Sirisena in Polonnaruwa this morning (August 12) railway trade unions have decided to call off their strike action.
According to the Secretary of the Railway Guards Association P.M. P Pieris, the strike action was called off after the President ordered Ministers Sarath Amunugama, Rajitha Senarathne, and Mangala Samaraweera to provide railway employees the approved salaries.
With railway workers returning to their work the secretary expects train services to normalize by evening today.
