Provincial delimitation process to be debated in Parliament

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Leader of the House, Min. Lakshman Kiriella says that the delimitation proposal for provincial councils will be presented to Parliament on the 24th of this month. He noted that the proposal should be passed in parliament by a two-thirds majority. The Minister further noted that Provincial Council elections will have to be held according to the old method if the proposal is not passed in Parliament. The decision to hold the debate on the delimitation proposal on the 24th of this month, from 11 am to 6.30 pm, was reached during the party leaders meeting held on Friday (Aug 10th). Minister Lakshman Kiriella also said that measures will be taken to hold elections for the 6 provincial councils of  Sabaragamuwa, North Central, Central, Northwestern, Eastern, and Northern.
