COLOMBO (News 1st) - Today, 12th of August, marks the 13th death anniversary of the former Foreign minister and distinguished diplomat Lakshman Kadirgamar. Lakshman Kadirgamar was a foreign minister that did a yeoman service to the nation. Born on April 12, 1932, he spent his childhood in the Jaffna peninsula. The eminent lawyer, Oxford scholar and illustrious humanitarian who entered politics later in life, had a clear and steady mission for his country when he took the baton in 1994. His dream was to build a multi-religious and multi-ethnic Sri Lanka where all communities could live in harmony, but the LTTE posed the gravest threat to this ideology. At midnight on August 12, 2005, 18 years ago, Lakshman Kadirgamar was assassinated while at his residence. Kadirgamar who is considered as one of the most successful foreign ministers in Sri Lanka will always be remembered by his fellow Sri Lankans.
