COLOMBO (News 1st) - General Secretary of the United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said today a final decision with regard to the post of Leader of the Opposition will be reached after holding discussions with the senior members of the UPFA. Amaraweera confirmed that the UPFA has received a letter from Speaker Karu Jayasuriya inquiring about UPFA position on the appointment of parliamentary stalwart Dinesh Gunawardena. Minister Amaraweera stated the party is scheduled to meet and would arrive at a decision after discussing the possible appointment. In a communique, the Speaker's office stated that the letter requesting the appointment of Gunawardena as opposition leader bearing the signatures of eight MPs was submitted to the Speaker on the 30th of July.
