Customs officials recover over Rs. 33mn in foreign currency at BIA

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Customs Officials at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) arrested an individual who attempted to smuggle over Rs. 15.3 in foreign currency out of the country. Deputy Customs Director and Acting Spokesperson, Vipula Minuwanpitiya, said that the suspect, a Singaporean national was arrested early this morning while attempting to smuggle money to Singapore. Customs officials also arrested 2 Sri Lankan suspects who attempted to smuggle over Rs. 17.7mn into China. The suspects aged 32 and 43 are residents of Pamankada and Akurana.
