Allegations on underworld members been used as Ministerial security

COLOMBO (News 1st) - A recent article that had been published in a daily newspaper claiming a senior police source had informed them that five members of the underworld are currently serving as personal security to a minister led to a heated exchange between members of government and the opposition in parliament yesterday (July 17). UPFA Parliamentarian Padma Udayshantha urged the government to release the details of the reports to parliament. He continued to say that if a member of the Parliament is using leaders of the underworld for his security then the security of the whole country must be questioned. Deputy Minister of Law and Order Nalin Bandara responding to the statement said that he would take necessary measures to look into the matter and release the key names of those involved. During the course of the debate, the Prime Minister stated he had read the article and had inquired into the source of the information as the police had denied providing an official statement to the fact a minister of government was using leaders of the underworld for his protection.
