Chairman of Embilipitiya PS imprisoned

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Chairman of the Embilipitiya Pradeshiya Sabha, M.K. Amila was sentenced three months in prison by the Embilipitiya Chief Magistrate Court for obstructing the duties of a police officer while he was on duty. The Embilipitiya Chief Magistrate ordered the Chairman to pay Rs. 30,000 as compensation to the police officer. M.K. Amila was also charged with assaulting and injuring a state official, taunting and criminal intimidation of a Police constable attached to the Panagoda Police division on the 26th of May 2013. In addition, the chairman of the Pradeshiya Sabha was ordered to pay a Rs. 3000 fine in installments of Rs. 1500. The Embilipitiya Chief Magistrate handed down a one-year prison sentence to the chairman of the pradeshiya sabah which was suspended for 9 months.
