COLOMBO (News 1^st) – The Disaster Management Centre in a statement said that steps are underway to pay compensation for those affected due to strong winds in the past few days.

Director General Chaminda Pathiraja said funds to pay compensation have been allocated and sent to Divisional Secretariats through District Secretariats.

Under the first phase, an advance of Rs. 10,000 will be paid for those whose houses were damaged. Steps have also been taken to allocate funds for 264 houses damaged in the Colombo District and 65 houses damaged in the Matara district.

Further, under the 2^nd phase, compensation will be paid to cover the full amount required for renovations after estimating the damages.
