Cabinet moves to reinstate the death penalty

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Cabinet of minister met on Tuesday (July 10th) under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena after two new state ministers were sworn in. Speaking to the media after the meeting Minister of Buddha Sasana, Gamini Jayawickrama Perera stated that the death penalty must be re-implemented, if not everything will be destroyed. He added that the entire Cabinet of Ministers raised their voices like never before and were of the same stance. Minister Gamini Jayawickrama Perera said the Minister of Justice was instructed to implement this and he will submit the proposal to the Prime Minister, for its implementation. When questioned by journalists whether the proposal to reinstate the death penalty was approved, Minister Jayawickrama Perera noted that no one opposed the proposal.
