Legal action can be taken against Vijayakala - Police

Colombo (News1st) - The Organized crimes prevention division informed Colombo Chief Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake on Friday (July 6th) that action can be filed under the penal code against the statement made by former state Minister Vijayakala Maheshwaran. Vijayakala Maheshwaran. speaking at an event in Jaffna espoused the cause of the LTTE. The organized Crimes prevention division informed court that action can be taken against the statement made by Vijayakala Maheshwaran. under article 115 and 120 of the penal code which falls under the amended Prevention of terrorism act. The Organized Crimes prevention division further informed court that the Former state minister had made the statement in the area falling under the jurisdiction of the Jaffna Court and thus the incident should be reported to the Court that holds jurisdiction in the area. The Chief Magistrate also ordered all print and electronic media organizations to hand in all edited and unedited footage of the statement made by the former state minister on the 2nd of July 2018 at the Weerasingham hall in Jaffna and all media reports related to the incident, to the organized Crimes Prevention division. The General Secretary of the Sihala Rawaya Organization Ven. Maligakanda Sudaththa thero and Chairman of the organization Liyanage Abeyarathne filed a complaint at the Police Headquarters on the 3rd of this month requesting for legal action to be taken against the statement of Wijayakala Maheshwaran as her statement incites disunity among racial and religious groups in the country.
