COLOMBO (News 1st) – Deputy Solicitor General Asad Nawazi who appeared for the Attorney General on Tuesday (July 3rd) informed the Colombo Magistrates court that the case against MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage on corruption and financial irregularities will be taken up for immediate trial in the Special High Court on the request of the Chief Justice.

Former Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage has been accused of allegedly distributing carrom boards worth over 40 million using government funds, in the run-up to the last presidential election.

Deputy Solicitor General Asad Nawazi said that the case will be taken up for trial before a bench of three judges in the Special High Court. Accordingly, the Colombo Chief Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake postponed the next hearing until the 04th of September.
