COLOMBO (News 1st) - General Secretary of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna, (JVP) Tilvin Silva speaking to the media regarding the 20th amendment said it does not vest any powers with the current Prime Minister. According to him, if the 20th amendment comes into effect on the 8th of January 2020, the powers of the president will be no more. He further stated that, once the presidential election for the year 2020 takes place, the parliament will be dissolved and a new parliament would have come into power. However, the JVP General Secretary did note that after the 20th amendment is enacted the prime minister would possess executive powers. While stating that the people of this country have no intention of electing Ranil Wickremesinghe as the PM once again, Silva noted that the Executive Presidency is not suitable to Sri Lanka.
