COLOMBO (News 1st) – Convening a media briefing today, Vice President of the Sri Lankan Freedom Party Dilan Perera explained the stance of the “SLFP 16” ( the group that defected from the Government)

The member of Parliament stated that as a group that they do not plan to sit with the joint opposition and that they want to stand as the SLFP. Perera also added that the motive of the 16 is not to create a gang and that they only want to make Mahinda Rajapakse the prime minister before the next election while keeping both feet in the SLFP.

“Thereafter with the people’s power that is built afterward, we will select a presidential candidate. If Gotabaya Rajapakse is the candidate selected by Mahinda Rajapakse, then we will rally around it. There need not be any issue. Next week, we are going to meet with the officials of the Podujana Peramuna which is built around Basil Rajapakse” continued Dilan Perera.
