Suspect arrested in connection to leopard killing

COLOMBO (News 1st) - A 42 year old suspect, a resident of Udayanagar, was arrested during a raid carried out last night (June 23) in connection with the killing of a leopard in Ambaalkulam in Kilinochchi. Another suspect surrendered himself to the Police this morning. Police said that the second suspect is a 39 year old resident of Ambaalkulam. The suspects are to be produced before the Kilinochchi Magistrates Court today. The police has deployed 3 other teams to arrest the rest of the suspects involved in the incident. According to the Police, it has been revealed that residents from 4 to 5 villages in the surrounding areas are connected to the incident. Killinochchi Magistrates Court has handed over photographs depicting the manner in which the Leopard was killed, to the Police Station and had ordered the Police to immediately arrest the suspects. The Magistrate has ordered the Police to carry out investigations based on video clips and photographs that were posted on social media depicting the manner in which the Leopard was killed. The Ministry of sustainable development and wildlife says a special investigation in connection with the incident is currently underway.
