COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Gammadda Weda Dahasak Initiative today (June 15), provided a solution to an issue that caused serious discomfort to the people living in Poppitiya, Ududumbara. Around 500 families live in the Poppitiya area in the Ududumbara Divisional Secretariat area in the Kandy District. Earlier, the residents were forced to walk around 5 kilometres to reach their homes on a rainy day and faced many issues with regard to their only source of income, which is agriculture. Based on a request made by the villagers to the Gammadda Secretariat, the footbridge was removed and construction of a new 60-foot long bridge began on the 14th of September last year. MAS Intimates came forward to support this initiative financially. The new bridge was declared open this morning (June 15) by members of the Gammadda Team as well as the members of the MAS intimates team lead by CEO of MAS Intimates Suren Fernando.  The bridge has been named after Chanuka Sandaruwan who passed away after being washed off by strong currents while attempting to cross the earlier bridge.
