Woman arrested for possession of Gold at BIA

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Sri Lanka Customs arrested a woman at the Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport while attempting to smuggle a stock of gold worth over Rs. 8 million. According to the Deputy Customs Media Spokesperson, Vipula Minuwanpitiya, the suspect is a Sri Lankan who arrived in the island from Dubai on Monday (June 11). The suspect is a 54-year-old resident of Warakapola. Minuwanpitiya said the stock of gold consisted of jewellery weighing close to 1.243 kilograms and that Sri Lanka Customs is conducting further investigations.
