Kandy unrest: 31 suspects further remanded

COLOMBO (News 1st) - 31 suspects including Amith Weerasinghe of the Mahason Balakaya who are in remand custody for their alleged involvement in the unrest in the Kandy area, were further remanded today. The order was issued when the case was taken up before Theldeniya Magistrate District Judge Shanaka Kalansooriya. 10 suspects allegedly involved in the unrest which broke out in the Moragahamulla area were remanded until the 22nd of this month. The suspects allegedly involved in the unrest in the Rangala area were remanded until the 25th of this month while 13 out of 19 suspects allegedly involved in three incidents in the Digana Town, were remanded until the 18th of this month. Theldeniya Magistrate District Judge Shanaka Kalansooriya ordered Amith Weerasinghe of the Mahasohon Balakaya and 4 other suspects to be remanded until 22nd. Amith Weerasinghe was taken to the Anuradhapura Prison while the other 30 suspects were taken to the Pallekale Prison.
