COLOMBO (News 1st) – A number of fish markets across the country were not open for business today (June 11). This was in support of the main demand made by Fishermen, which is to provide Kerosene at the previous price.

Fishermen in Mutuwal & surrounding areas have refrained from setting out to sea since Saturday. The Mutuwal Fish market was deserted today as there was no catch for sale. The Fishermen in Mutuwal staged a protest march this morning highlighting their demand. The march commenced from the Mutuwal De Lasalle Junction.

Fishermen in Negombo also staged a protest march demanding a fuel price reduction. The march commenced from opposite the St. Sebastian’s Church in Negombo and proceeded towards the Telwatte Junction via the Colombo – Chilaw Main Road. The Negombo Fish market was also closed today (June 11).

The protestors demanded that Kerosene be provided at a price of Rs. 44.
