COLOMBO (News 1st) – 3666 individuals including 998 suspects who had warrants against them, were arrested in an island-wide operation carried out by the police from 9 PM yesterday (June 09) to 8 AM today (June 10).
Furthermore, the Police special task force raided a house in Moragasmulla, Ragagiriya this morning.The Police media spokesperson, Superintendent of Police Ruwan Gunasekara said no arrests were made during the raid in Moragasmulla. He added that these raids are conducted by the Police special task force, criminal investigations division and police stations based on the instructions issued by the Inspector General of Police.
The police media spokesperson went on to say that at present investigations are being conducted to apprehend drug dealers and criminal organizations.
Following the island-wide operation conducted 648 people were arrested for drunk driving, 1090 suspects were arrested for various others crimes and 843 suspects were arrested on charges of dealing or possessing of heroin and other narcotics.
77 suspects were arrested for involvement in illegal actions while 10 suspects were arrested with firearms and a live hand grenade.
