COLOMBO (News 1st) - The MET Department states due to the active South-west monsoon, windy conditions are expected to strengthen over the island and adjoining sea areas in the next few days. Prevailing showery and cloudy conditions in the South-western part will continue further. Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Western, Southern, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-western Provinces. The department adds fairly heavy falls above 75 mm can be expected at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central Provinces and in Galle and Matara Districts. Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in Ampara, Badulla and Batticaloa Districts after 2:00 p.m. Fairly strong gusty winds up to 50 kmph can be expected over Southern Province and Monaragala, Matale, Nuwara Eliya and Polonnaruwa Districts.
