"The JVP has become the pet of Ranil Wickremesinghe" - National Alliance for Lawyers Associations

COLOMBO (News 1^st) - The National Alliance for Lawyers Associations convened a media briefing today (June 02). Convenor of the National Alliance for Lawyers Associations, Attorney-at-Law Manoj Gamage, stated that several years ago, the JVP was the most influential factor that did not allow Presidents and Governments in this country to act according to their whims and fancies. He added that sadly during the Government of Ranil Wickremesinghe, the JVP has become a tamed elephant and that they struggled to call for the Prime Ministers resignation over the Bond Scam. Attorney-at-Law Manoj Gamage also said that the JVP has become Ranil Wickremesinghe's pet dogs who bring forward proposals for the executive presidency to be abolished when Ranil Wickremesinghe faces issued regarding his party leadership or the post of Prime Minister. In a backdrop where allegations have been raised that 118 individuals including politicians took kickbacks from the alleged perpetrators of the bond scam, the National Alliance for Lawyers Associations states that the 20th amendment, which allows a President to be selected through the votes of MPs, would pave the way for individuals like Arjun Aloysius to name who becomes the President.
