Aiyankulam forest being destroyed by a sand racket

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Another protest was staged in the Aiyankulam area in Mullaitivu against a sand racket that's taking place in the area. A News 1st correspondent said 30 acres of the Aiyankulam forest have been destroyed due to this sand racket. The protesters charge the sand racket which is taking place in the area over the past few months is being spearheaded by businessmen from other areas. They also state that those businessmen have given money to prevent the residents from voicing objections. Mullaitivu District Secretary Rupavathi Kediswaran said necessary steps will be taken following an investigation.
